If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.
2 Chronicles 7:14
Today there are many who are waiting for God to move and spark revival. My take is that He’s waiting for us to do what He’s already shown us to do in His word. In 2 Chronicles 7:14 the steps we are given for Him to heal our land include prayer, seeking His face, and turning from sin. Humility is woven into all of them. 2 Chronicles 7:14 gives us no worship band, no expository sermon, no big name Christian speaker giving a message on “10 steps to revival,” no special event or conference on prayer. Prayer must become the main event in our churches.
The challenge in today’s video is for every church to narrow its focus to prayer and confession in its weekend services for the next 90 days. Temporarily, set the worship band aside (you can have a worship night on Wednesday if you want). If you need a sermon, keep it short.
So your weekend services would look like this:
Break everyone up into groups of 2 or 3. Men with men, women with women. Spend time sharing your struggles, sin, and sorrow with each other, then pray for each other. At the end of today’s video there is a list of sins to give you the issues to pray through. Spend 30 minutes doing this.
Then have the entire church spend time in prayer as a body. You can break up into small groups, or have everyone pray together as a body. Ask God to convict His people, open the eyes and hearts of people everywhere, bring salvation for the unsaved, challenge the lukewarm. You can pray for schools, governments, businesses, sports and entertainment industries, families, marriages, and ask Him to work powerfully in the porn industry. Public confession of sin is spiritually powerful and can set off a chain reaction of humility and brokenness that opens the door wide for the Holy Spirit to fill your sanctuary.
If we narrow our focus to seeking His face, confession, and prayer, why wouldn’t God keep His promise to heal our countries?
I challenge you to show this video to your church leadership, share it with your small groups, and others you know. This might mean stepping out of your comfort zone, but the end result would be worth it. You can also make confession and prayer your focus in your small groups or home churches.
If you doubt whether you should do this, consider: every weekend churches everywhere have their sermons and worship time, and for decades the country has been falling apart. If sermons and worship were enough we wouldn’t be in this mess.
Let’s do this.
But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.
