The Other Side of the Great Cover-Up

Posted: Oct 09, 2026

“Satan is always at church before the preacher is in the pulpit or a member is in the pew. He comes to hinder the sower, to choke the seed, and to hinder the harvest.”
– EM Bounds (1835-1913)

“And I sought for a man among them who should build up the wall and stand in the breach before me for the land, that I should not destroy it…”
– Ezekiel 22:30a

In last week’s newsletter, the Great Cover-Up, many of the stories showed church and ministry leadership dodging the topics of porn and sex in the church.

But it’s not only leadership of some churches that is playing ostrich.

Years ago, a friend of mine who pastored a small church told me his story, which included former struggles with porn. I encouraged him to share his struggles with lust with his flock to encourage those who were hurting to reach out for help. He did so, and later told me that he was shunned after that message.
They didn’t want to hear it.

During a Christian trade show we exhibited at in 2016, we received dirty looks from persons walking by, in addition to people avoiding our booth.

Several years later I was invited to have a table with our resources and books at a church for their weekend services. We arrived early to set up. The first guy who walked in the door saw what we were about and shot us a glare.

During a billboard campaign we ran, a woman emailed me, angrily stating that I was damaging the church’s reputation for stating the statistic that half of the men were struggling with porn. This was in 2006 before the iPhone came out in 2007 and surveys started showing that two-thirds were viewing porn.

And, early last year, I led one of our From Porn to Grace conferences at a church in Aylesbury in the UK. The senior pastor (Vicar) from the church got flack from some of his flock for having me speak about sexual issues. You can listen to Pastor Martin Kuhrt share what he went through on Blazing Grace Radio during my interview with him.

I don’t want this to come off like every church shuts down when it comes to talking about sex or porn, and nor does every individual, not by far. Many of you are on the same page with what we’re doing. When I speak I usually find that many of those in attendance are hungry for what we have to offer as it’s so rare that these topics are addressed effectively, or at all, Sunday morning.

We’re a church at war; the enemy easily manipulates some of God’s people through fear, arrogance (1 Corinthians 5:2), lack of understanding, or their own bondage to lust, to do everything they can to keep the topics of porn and sex hidden in the closet. Many are naive to the intense spiritual battles raging around them and the lives that are being destroyed daily from porn and other forms of sexual sin.

Later today I will be on a plane to London for the CRE show next week (see the events schedule below). In preparation I found the following survey results:

* From August 2024–August 2025, Google searches for “porn” in the UK grew from 529 million in 2022–2023 to 662 million in 2024–2025 – a 25% increase.
* 55% of UK men hide their porn habits from their partner.
* 30%+ of UK men watch porn during work.
* 30%+ admit to viewing porn in public spaces.
–Med Express, Dr. Sophie Dix, Sept 26, 2025
In her report, Sophie also stated that:
“Porn is fully integrated into British society, with our analysis revealing that more than four in five men in the UK (82%) watch it.”

OnlyFans, the world’s favorite do-it-yourself porn site, had revenue in 2025 of $7.2 billion. The Top Countries with OnlyFans Creators (those with their own explicit profile pages) are:
#1: The US with 1 million+
#2: The UK with 300,000+
#3: Australia with 100,000+
Top Countries spending on OnlyFans
#1: The US: $2.63 billion
#2: The UK: $531 million
#3: Canada: $355 million

To our shame, the US is the worldwide King of Porn.
The United Kingdom is second.

“To us, O Lord, belongs open shame, to our kings, to our princes, and to our fathers, because we have sinned against you.”
Daniel 9:8

Our countries are saturated with sexual sin yet we barely put up a fight, and many, including some in the church, are opposing those who do. The message that should be stated with a sense of urgency from every pulpit and ministry is “Hey, this is horrific, we’re in trouble. We need to step up and get in the game instead of watching more marriages and families destroyed on our watch.”

I’m going to the UK and other countries for the next 3 weeks to offer the freedom and healing that Jesus offers to the sexually broken and their spouse.

Please consider supporting us in prayer and financially.

We are a church at war. Please join us in the battles for the hearts of God’s people.

“Last year I met Mike Genung of Blazing Grace and invited him when he was next in the UK to come to run a conference on porn for Christians who are struggling with it, and for church and youth leaders and parents and anyone else who wanted to be more aware of the effects of porn and how to help others. I also invited him to preach on a Sunday morning at our church. I had very good feedback from my congregation and can wholeheartedly recommend him.”
